It’s a rather logical question to ask yourself which positions feel good when you’re pregnant. In this article we will discuss some of those, so that you can enjoy intercourse during your pregnancy.
Feeling frisky during pregnancy?
It’s completely normal to want to have sex when you’re pregnant, yet at the same time it isn’t. Your libido gets an extra boost because of the additional hormones during pregnancy. There’s more blood flowing to your pelvis and your uterus, which causes it to be more sensitive and stimulated. Your vagina also produces more moisture. It’s pretty logical that you get turned on faster in the later phase of your pregnancy which in turn makes you crave to have sex more often. It can also be quite the opposite. Maybe you are experiencing more pregnancy issues, like fatigue or morning sickness. Then sex is the last thing that will be on your mind, maybe you may not even have the energy for it.
Missionary during pregnancy
The Missionary is the position where the woman lies on her back with the man hovering over her. But is this position still possible when you’re pregnant? You’d often want to be able to face each other to see your partner enjoy themselves, but it’s a bit of a different case when you’re pregnant. You’re pregnant and your belly is already showing, which means that the Missionary won’t be the most pleasurable position. Why? Your belly will be in the way, and the pressure put on the belly isn’t nice for the baby. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t other positions where you’re able to look at each other.
Is it safe to have sex during pregnancy?
It’s safe to have sex during your pregnancy for as long as your water didn’t break. However, if the obstetrician has advised you something else because of medical reasons, then it’s smarter to unfortunately not do it. The only thing you need to keep in mind is the weight of your partner, he shouldn’t hover over you like in Missionary, because this is quite taxing for your belly. Having sex during pregnancy won’t cause your baby any harm, because the baby is being protected by a strong cervix, amniotic fluid, and mucus. If you’re experiencing pelvic issues, give Doggy a try. Then you don’t have to spread your legs that much which is beneficial for your pelvis.
Which positions are suitable for pregnancy?
- Big Spoon, Little Spoon
- Doggy
- Doggy, but different
- Cowgirl
- Reverse Cowgirl
- Sideways
- Standing Missionary
- Couchbound
- Lotus
- Lap Dance
- Oral
- Anal
Sex position 1; Big Spoon, Little Spoon.
You’re lying comfortably on your side while your partner lies down behind you. Press your bum a bit back. Take the initiative here as well. Control the rhythm and the depth of the penetration. It could be painful if the penis slips out of the vagina. That’s why you should try to keep your bum pressed against your partner. This way you can keep control over the movements with your bum, and you both will be comfortable.
Sex position 2; Doggy
With Doggy-Style when you’re pregnant, you’ll also be on your hands and knees. You can hold on to the headboard of the bed for more support or balance. Your partner can position himself behind you on his knees or stood up, depending on how much you are on the bed. That way your partner can penetrate you from behind and hold on to your hips. You can determine the speed and depth by leaning on your arms or on to the bed, that way it will be more enjoyable for you.
Sex position 3; Doggy, but different
Just like the casual Doggy, the penis will penetrate from behind. However, instead of being on your hands and knees, you only will be on your knees this time. You’re sitting straight-up with your partner sitting right behind you on his knees. That way your partner can hold you better and the intimacy will get a boost, just like how you see in movies, sometimes.
You also have a standing version. Look for an exciting spot in your house and lean with your hands against the countertop, for example. Somewhat hollow out your back. Your partner can hold your hips from behind and you can determine the depth of the penetration by moving your bum backwards.
Sex position 4; Cowgirl
Doing the Cowgirl when you’re pregnant will go like this: Your partner is lying on this back and you are on top of him with your knees on the bed. There is no pressure on your belly when you’re on top. The best thing apart from that is that you can determine your own speed. You can also control the depth of the penetration. You can make eye contact in this position, just like with the ‘traditional’ way of having sex in the Missionary position.
Sex position 5; Reverse Cowgirl
The reverse cowgirl will also give you a good sensation and a good penetration. Just like with Cowgirl, you’re on top of your partner while your partner is lying on his back. The only thing that’s different is that you’re facing your back towards him. You can lean forward towards the bed to gain more support when you place your hands on the mattress. Your clitoris will have more friction and I’m sure your partner will enjoy the view.
Sex position 6; Sideways
You’re lying next to each other with this position, both on your side and facing each other. That way you can look at each other and enjoy yourselves at the same time. Because you’re on your side, you’re able to wrap your leg around him while he pleasures you. By wrapping your leg around him and holding a grip, you receive more friction around your vagina which gives you a pleasurable sensation. Your partner has more space like this as well. You can also try to rest your head against his chest so you can cuddle during it all.
Sex position 7; Missionary, but standing
During the standing missionary, you will lay on the edge of the bed with your knees bent, your feet are placed on the edge of the mattress and your partner stands in between your legs. Your partner can penetrate you the traditional way, the only difference is that he isn’t leaning on you and your belly.
Sex position 8; On the couch
Having sex on the couch while you’re pregnant looks like this: Kneel on the couch with your belly facing the pillows. That way it’s easy for you to hold on to something without your belly being in the way. Lean on your arms for support. Your partner will penetrate you from behind.
Sex position 9; Lotus
The Lotus almost looks the same as the standing missionary. Just like with the standing missionary, you will be lying on the edge of the bed. The only difference is that your bum will be slightly over the edge of the bed and your feet will be placed on the floor for support. Your partner is sitting on his knees between your thighs which will give him the ability to give you deep penetration.
Sex position 10; Lap dance
The lap dance will give you the possibility to determine the depth of the penetration yourself. Your partner is seated on a chair, and just like with a lap dance, you are on his lap. This can be done facing forward like the cowgirl position, or with your back faced towards him like the reverse cowgirl position. Both options provides you enough support because your feet will be planted firmly on the floor, but also because you can hold on tightly to your partner.
Oral sex during pregnancy
You are allowed to receive oral sex if you both don’t have the HIV-virus. If you don’t have a monogamous relationship, it’s best not to have oral sex during your pregnancy. The virus can contaminate your baby through tiny injuries in your vagina.
Anal sex during pregnancy
It’s best to avoid having anal sex during the pregnancy. It doesn’t cause harm to your baby, however it can be very uncomfortable. There is a possibility that you will develop hemorrhages and those can spread bacteria as well. Bacteria can enter the vagina through the rectum and that can lead to developing an infection. Do you still want to have anal sex during your pregnancy, and you want to know what to watch out for? Make sure that your partner doesn’t go from anal to vaginal without thoroughly cleaning up his penis in between. That way you will keep any infections at bay and your hemorrhages won’t crack open and bleed.
